Lincoln’s Restoration of The Bank Building in D.C.: A Celebration of Preservation and Expansion

Lincoln Property Company has finalized the renovation of The Bank Building, Washington, D.C.’s 93-year-old landmark structure at 699 14th Street Northwest. The future meets tradition in the momentous 164,000 square-foot project, located at the corner of 14th and G streets and just one block from The White House.

The building’s expansion and green retrofitting innovatively preserves its celebrated Federal-American neoclassical architecture, while a newly constructed 11-story office tower adjoins the original building. Within, modern office, retail, and restaurant spaces are incorporated in the renovated and newly forged areas of the treasured building.

Preservation of History

It was critical to Lincoln and the City to retain and restore as many of The Bank Building’s original historical features as possible—and this goal was exceeded. From the iconic 1920’s columned limestone facade and the lobby’s polychrome coffered ceiling to the massive arched windows, signature architectural elements were brought back to life. And, original artifacts have been incorporated into the design, such as the building’s circular safe deposit vault on the lower level, the original cash vault on the main floor, and the lobby’s pendant chandelier.

Modern Expansion

The Bank Building’s history integrates harmoniously with modernity. Altogether, the expanded mixed-use structure has three rooftop terraces and the new, adjoining office tower has open-air balconies on every floor. Throughout, it is fitted with the latest HVAC and air filtration systems, plus touchless entryway technologies that more than satisfy today’s demands.

All of the considerations for green building, air quality, and new tech contribute to The Bank Building’s receiving of WELL Building, Fitwel®, and Gold LEED certifications.

Trophy Office Spaces and Amenities

Several Fortune 500 companies have already leased space at The Bank Building, drawn to the state-of-the-art amenities to provide their employees and clients. 9-foot-high ceilings, 10-foot windows, and private balconies on every floor provide abundant natural light. Commuters and visitors will appreciate its two-block proximity to Metro Center, underground parking, and secured bike storage room with a repair station.

The penthouse conference facility includes catering facilities, and the fully-equipped, spa-quality executive fitness center has deluxe locker rooms and towel service. Three on-site signature restaurants by Chef Emil Stivkov, planned retail, and nearby shops, hotels, and entertainment offerings like Capital One Arena, make for an ideal location for company networking and employee excitement about their workplace.
