THE BANK BUILDING
DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA

The Bank Building is located a block from the White House and prominently situated on one of Washington D.C.’s premier corners, 14th and G Streets, NW, within the East End neighborhood. The 164,000 sf project consists of the existing historic landmarked building known as the National Bank of Washington and is combined with a brand new 11 story, 135,000 sf, trophy office tower and approximately 25,000 sf of historically preserved retail space. The joining of the old and new buildings creates an extraordinary D.C. experience for visitors and tenants. The development project commenced in Q1 2018 and delivered November 2021 includes the restoration of the existing historic bank building located directly on the corner of 14th and G Streets, NW, and connected to the new, 11 story trophy office tower. A majority of the bank building, built in the early twentieth-century and designed by the prominent architect, Alfred C. Bossom, was historically preserved to keep the unique Neoclassical architectural features including large arched windows, elaborate polychrome coffered ceiling, chandeliers and two massive vaults. The building was last occupied by the National Bank of Washington who vacated in 1990. Shalom Baranes Associates led the architectural design of the adjoining buildings. The project also includes 4 levels of below-grade parking, providing a ratio of 1/1,500 RSF. One unique feature of the office tower is that it boasts direct access to outside air and light on every level, including 3 over-sized roof terraces. The combined project, including entitlement and approvals by the Historic Preservation Review Board took approximately four years to complete at a value in excess of $165 million.
